Meet Uno the Number Star and learn how adding 1 gives the next number every time. We will read the table, watch each sum appear, practise in order, practise in mixed order, and then win a certificate.
Look at the whole table first. This is our map.
Big idea: when we add 1, the answer is the next number.
So if we see 1 + 4, we think: “What number comes after 4?” The answer is 5.
Read each row slowly. Point with your finger if that helps. We want your eyes, ears, and brain to work together.
Read each line: one plus something equals the next number.
We will show each sum one part at a time.
On this page, the sum appears like this:
1 → + → 1 → = → 2
After the answer appears, read the whole sentence aloud:
One plus one equals two.
Start with 1 + 1 and go all the way to 1 + 10.
Now it is your turn.
Each question gives you 3 choices. Pick the correct answer, then move to the next one.
Because these are in order, you can notice the pattern: the answers keep going up by 1.
Now the sums jump around. Let’s see if you still know them.
This time, the questions are not in order.
You might see 1 + 4, then 1 + 7, then 1 + 2.
That is how we check if you really know the rule, not just the order.

Here is the whole trick in one sentence:
When you add 1, you get the next number.
If the number is 8, the next number is 9. So 1 + 8 = 9.
If the number is 10, the next number is 11. So 1 + 10 = 11.
= 3
= 6
= 8
= 11
