Big idea: the first number stays 9, and the answer gets bigger each time.
So if we see 9 + 4, we add 9 more. The answer is 13.
Read each row slowly. Point with your finger if that helps. We want your eyes, ears, and brain to work together.
Read each line: 9 plus something equals the total.

After the answer appears, read the whole sentence aloud:
Nine plus one equals 10.
Start with 9 + 1 and go all the way to 9 + 10.

When you add 9, the total gets 9 bigger.
If the second number is 8, then 9 + 8 = 17.
