Big idea: when we multiply by 1, the answer stays the same number.
So if we see 1 × 4, we think: “What is 4 groups of 1?” The answer is still 4.
Read each row slowly. Point with your finger if that helps. We want your eyes, ears, and brain to work together.
Read each line: one times something equals the same number.
We will show each fact one part at a time.
On this page, the fact appears like this:
1 → × → 1 → = → 1
After the answer appears, read the whole sentence aloud:
One times one equals one.
Start with 1 × 1 and go all the way to 1 × 12.
Now it is your turn.

Because these are in order, you can notice the pattern: the answers keep following the same second number.

Here is the whole trick in one sentence:
When you multiply by 1, the answer stays the same.
If the number is 8, then 1 × 8 = 8.
If the number is 12, then 1 × 12 = 12.
